Practical info
For your comfort we only use 75 beds on the 100 available- duvets provided (sleeping sheets are obligatory) – dry toilets inside.
In summer drinking water (free) and showers (5 CHF.-)
In winter water from snow melt is strictly rationed – no drinking water – no showers.
Snacks from 12h00 -14h30.
There is no winter room.
HISTORIQUE
The FXB Panossière refuge is the fifth refuge built at Panossière.
The first shelter was built under a rock face in 1881, then in 1893 a wooden shelter was built. In 1969 a stone shelter was built but was destroyed by an avalanche in 1988. This was replaced by a temporary refuge until the current refuge was built and inaugurated in 1996 with the support of the FXB Foundation.
The actual avant-gardist design is a high mountain refuge providing simple comfort. It is not a mountain hotel, FXB Panossière remains a refuge for hikers and mountaineers.
In fact, the electricity, heating and water suply is sometimes problematic at this altitude despite the sophistication of current techniques.
